Ray Catton comes close in the 3rd/4th Division Merit

Harrogate Dragon Master Chris Light celebrated this week having clinched the 3rd/4th Division Merit in fine style.

The day started on an overcast but pleasant day in Pateley Bridge and with the early rounds completed John Rowson continued his progress beating Conor McCarthy 21-20, then Ken Firth 21-11 before beating Colin Smith 21-12 to book his place in the semi-final. Ray Catton got off to a flying start beating Jake Coker and Robin Addis 21-10 whilst fellow club mate Brian Snodgrass also made good progress beating George Coker 21-12 and Mike Smith also to 21-12.

Chris Light faced a tough challenge against Margaret Brockhill but just managed to get over the line first with a good 21-19 victory. Light then beat Liz Snodgrass 21-17 to progress into the semi-finals.

The semi-finals were unfortunately marred by the weather somewhat as the heavens opened up but it did not deter Rowson and Catton from putting on a good display. With the game remaining tight throughout the game it was Catton who took late advantage to pull away and secure a place in the final with a 21-16 victory. Special mention was reserved for Rowson however who bowled excellent all afternoon but was likely affected by the persistent rain.

Light and Snodgrass also bared the weather well but it was the Dragon man who used his extensive experience well to use the green to his great advantage and secure a 21-11 win.

With conditions now very tough for both finalists it was the Dragon Master who shone the brightest as he controlled the game with an exceptional performance finally securing a cup victory with a 21-8 win. Special mention once again goes to Catton however who as a relatively new bowler done a fantastic job of reaching a major final.

League President Mr Mick Faulding congratulated the finalists, all competitors, Pateley Bridge Bowling Club and finally Mr Dave Rowson for his excellent management of the event.
