ERNEST BAINES SHIELD HISTORY
The Ernest Baines Cup started in 1985 by the then club member Ernest Baines. The competition was set up as a doubles tournament that is played annually, and still is to this day.
There was one stipulation that the Baines family made which was that the competition should not be held on a Sunday. This was because the family was very religious and traditional, Sunday is considered a day of rest within the Christian faith.
