ABOUT WAYSIDE BOWLING CLUB
CLUB HISTORY
Wayside Bowling Club was originally part of the Wayside Gardens Sports Club which, apart from the bowling section, included a tennis section and a social club where whist drives and other functions would be held.

Subscriptions for the bowls section of the sports club were, in old money, 1 Guinea (Twenty One Shillings) for members and for non-members, 3 pence per game.

In March 1930, plans to build a dedicated bowls pavilion were put forward but were not to exceed a £30 budget. By the end of April in 1930, all building works had been completed. To celebrate the start of another season and the new bowls pavilion, Alderman Stott was invited to open the green by bowling the first wood in a friendly match against Bilton Dragon.

The club as we know it today was formally established in 1932.
THE CLUB TODAY
Over the years, the club has continued to grow with new members of all ages and abilities joining our teams.

We are very proud of our teams who play and compete across the county throughout the five crown green bowling bowling divisions.

Not only are we proud of the trophies and titles our teams have won, but also of the welcoming and friendly club we have created for our members.

Wayside Bowling Club is not just a place for keen bowlers to improve their skills and compete, it's a place for our members to meet likeminded people who have a shared love of crown green bowling.
THE CLUB HOUSE
Our club house is the hub of Wayside and back in 2018, it underwent a complete rebuild with funding granted to the club through the National Lottery.

The old club house was flattened and it's place a new club house was erected with facilities for members to socialise, our trophies and achievements to be proudly showcased and also for our visitors to enjoy a proper Yorkshire cup of tea!

As a club we host a number of league fixtures and local competitions which is why it has always been important for us to provide the best facilities possible both in the club house but also on the green itself.

We have a dedicated number of members who maintain the green and the clubhouse to the highest of standards.
